A. We had this question come up a couple of weeks ago. Someone was wondering if their new home fit into any rating systems. Since their home was new-to-them and not recently constructed, the certification guidelines do not apply. If you are looking for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program certifications, then you must include the builder during your residential or commercial build. A preexisting structure would need to be “re-greened” by following the guidelines instituted by the U.S. Green Building Council and the American Society of Interior Designers Foundation.
The guidelines are very thorough. Chances are that you will find your questions are all addressed in their program guidelines on regreenprogram.org. Just recently added, a strategy generator. Looking for ways to save money on heating? The strategy generator will show you different projects to do just that.
Whether or not your home qualifies for any tax breaks or incentives breaks down to whether or not you follow energy guidelines. Check them out before you new build so that you will know what is available. Feel free to contact RemWhirl with any specific questions.

Great post. I’m always looking for new eco-friendly options in everyday life. I’ll check out these sites and keep the info in mind the next time I purchase a home.
I think green building designs and renovations are going to be a big industry in the very near future. People are looking for ways to save on energy and costs and be eco-friendly.
